Statistics show that 1-in-21 people fall victim to identity theft

ALBANY, GA -- Statistics show that 1-in-21 people fall victim to identity theft.

The Dougherty County Rotary Club hosted a speaker from Georgia Watch Tuesday, an organization aimed at protecting consumers from getting their identity stolen.

They say there are many ways people can become victims.

“It can be by having your mail stolen, it can be by having your credit card cloned or copied without your knowledge, it can be by having your information bought. There are just a lot of different ways that people that are dishonest try to work against consumers,” said Ashley Wilson of Georgia Watch.

They advise taking advantage of free credit reports to monitor activity.
