ALBANY, GA -- A hostage situation ends peacefully Saturday.

A domestic dispute was reported at 3109 Crepe Myrtle Court after midnight Friday night. Albany police responded to the scene Saturday around noon, saying it had become a hostage situation. According to police, 30-year-old Shermain Winns was in the house with 25-year-ol Kim James and her young son and was not permitting them to leave the residence.

Both Winns and James were in constant contact with family members, which aided in the negotiation process, said APD spokesperson Phyllis Banks.

Winns surrendered to authorities around 3:00 p.m. after letting James and her son leave.

Authorities say Winns will not be charged with anything from Saturday's situation, but he was arrested on outstanding warrants of battery and criminal trespassing.
