The Albany City Commission approves the police department for new equipment

ALBANY, GA. -- The Albany City Commission approved the Albany Police Department to receive $1.4 million dollars worth of new vehicles and laptops.

Both expenses are continuations of ongoing projects for the police department.  Deputy Chief Mark Scott says the department replaces cars every year because the cars get worn down quickly.  “The cars run all night, and all of the next day.  We run a lot of them 24-7.  The officers need to know that it’s going to keep running for the next 10 hours while they’re on their shift.  Every year some of the cars have to be rotated or completely replaced” says Scott.

The new laptops will be connected to the jail and court system for a fully integrated law enforcement computer system.

The new vehicles include Ford Fusions, Crown Victoria's, Pickup trucks, and vans.
