ATLANTA (AP) -- Georgia's insurance industry is launching a new campaign aimed at curbing rising insurance fraud cases.

The Georgia chapter of the International Association of Special Investigation Units and the National Insurance Crime Bureau on Wednesday announced the effort, which is posting billboards and training officers to spot insurance fraud.

Incoming Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens said he will beef up the department's fraud unit and hire a former prosecutor to build cases.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau says the number of questionable insurance claims in Georgia swelled from about 2,100 in 2007 to more than 2,700 in 2009.

Ten billboards warn residents that "Insurance Fraud Costs Everyone" and encourage tipsters to dial 1-800-TEL-NICB.
