After much debate, the board voted to pass the state's model
The school board voted six to one to pass the state's model of an ethics policy
School board members voted on an ethics policy Monday night.
The main vein of the policy states that board members cannot participate in votes that involve family members. There were three drafts on the table--one that was handed down as a model by the state, another drafted by attorney Tommy Coleman, and another by chairman David Maschke. Maschke's version went a step beyond the state's model in that it was inclusive of more family members. Board member Emily Jean McAfee agreed with Maschke's additions, stating that it would prove to the community the board's desire to be transparent. Reverend James Bush says he felt safe in voting on the state's model because it had been passed by other school systems in Georgia.
After much debate, the board voted to approve the state's model.
