ALBANY, GA -- Lee County High School’s Community Based Vocational Instruction Program is teaching it’s students about the working world. The program gives students with disabilities the chance to work their way into the real world.

Jamie Hanson is a Lee County High senior who loves hunting and the Florida Gators. But Hanson isn’t just any kid, he spends most of his mornings working at Bennett’s Supply. It’s all part of the C.B.V.I. Program.

Organizations like Phoebe Putney, Easter Seals, and K-mart work with the program. Program Coordinator Amanda Wildes says from unloading merchandise to rearranging shoes, the program allows students to work in real life situations so they’re prepared for when they leave high school. “It just provides them so many experiences that they can put on a resume and go to employers and say I’ve done so & so and so & so,” says Wildes.

Officials have seen firsthand how the program has helped students after graduating. They say the program wouldn’t be possible without the support of businesses. Students are thankful for that support as well.
