COLUMBUS, GA -- An inmate in the Georgia prison system who had his legs crushed while working on trash collection detail in Columbus has filed a federal lawsuit.

The lawsuit, filed by 40-year-old Michael Murray, seeks $1 million is damages.  The lawsuit states that Murray was putting trash in a garbage truck when he was hit by a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Brandon Marks. Murray’s legs had to be amputated following the accident.

Murray is currently serving time in a Georgia medical prison on two convictions; robbery and impersonating another. 

The City of Columbus, the Georgia Department of Corrections, and the motorist who hit Murray are all named in the lawsuit.
