Alexander Woods III is charged with 5 counts of murder in Colquitt County
COLQUITT COUNTY, GA -- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has charged a third person in a quintuple murder case in Colquitt County.
32-year-old Alexander Woods III was arraigned on five counts of murder this week in connection with the November 2004 deaths of 50-year-old Betty Faye Watts, 29-year-old Katrina Darlene Watts Resendez, 3-year-old Juan Carlos Resendez, 30-year-old Liliana Alegria Aguilar, and 25-year-old Jaime Cruz Resendez.
A judge denied bond for Woods, who is currently serving a 5-year sentence at the Colquitt County Correctional Institution on a drug conviction. The GBI has not released specific details about Woods’ alleged role in the murders.
49-year-old Jerry Johnny Thompson and Wilma Ann Yvonne Stover, both of Nashville, are also charged in the case.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Johnny Thompson. His lawyers have filed more than 100 motions and are requesting that his trial be moved to another county.
Thompson was charged in a 25-count indictment that included 10 murder counts in December 2006. Five of the counts of which he is accused could carry the death penalty.
The murder investigation led to the conviction of six people in a drug-trafficking ring. Thompson and Stover also have served time in federal prison on drug charges.
