City Commissioner defer a decision on Jax’s Liquor Store to review evidence
ALBANY, GA. -- Tuesday night’s city commission meeting heard from both sides of the aisle on a controversial liquor store permit.
The proposed liquor store is located near Albany State University at the defunct China Palace and it meets all distance requirements from churches and ASU.
Officials say they have a clause to deny the license if it’s not good for the neighborhood, so they voted to move to a denial hearing.
Commissioner Roger Marietta says the city will hear all facts, figures, and evidence from both sides and make a final decision at a future date. “If the majority of the commission stays together and votes to deny it, then they’ll either have to move their location or they did kind of infer that they’ll sue us” says Marietta.
City Commissioners did not set a date for the denial hearing.
