Pre-existing conditions may threaten insurance providers

ALBANY, GA -- Healthcare and insurance professionals came together in Albany today to address the future of health insurance.

Phoebe East hosted Southwest Georgia Health Underwriters.

The main topic of discussion was implementing  the recently passed Healthcare Reform Act.

Georgia State Senator Ralph Hudgens is the Chairman of the State Senate Insurance Commission and told the group he has concerns about requiring insurance companies to provide coverage for pre-existing conditions.

"You come home and your house is on fire and you call your agent and say,’you know, I’ve been meaning to call you. I need to increase my coverage by $50,000, it just slipped my mind,’ said Hudgens.

Hudgens is running for Insurance Commissioner of Georgia.

His opponent in the November election is Democrat Mary Squires.
