Lamar Reese celebrates 'Red Ribbon Week'
ALBANY, GA -- Keeping kids off the streets and off drugs is the goal of Red Ribbon week at Lamar Reese Magnet School for the Fine Arts.
"We are promoting children’s healthy living and lifestyles by teaching them all the choices they can have if they choose to have a drug free life," said Tonya McDuffie of Lamar Reese.
The program concluded on Friday with the ‘Our School Rocks Drug Free’ celebration with songs and dance numbers produced by the students.
"The message really is for the kids to create the message," said Lamar Reese's Julia Ross. "We want to teach them to teach other about being drug free."
The children also spent the week designing decorations for the classroom doors. Each child then signed the door as a commitment to remain drug free."By building background now for the students in reference to drugs and the potential harms and dangers and pitfalls they can fall into if they choose a life of drugs, they’ll have that to pull from for the rest of their lives," said McDuffie.
Lamar Reese is also entered in the Clorox Bright Futures Contest where the winning school will receive a $50,000 grant.
