ALBANY, GA -- A 1961 student, expelled for participating in Civil Rights protests, returned Friday as the keynote speaker at Albany State University’s Homecoming Convocation.
Annette Jones White spoke to students about her memories of class and her experiences being kicked out for protesting. ASU has been honoring the 1961 expelled students all throughout Homecoming Week.
During Homecoming, alumni from all areas and all years come back, even 1929 graduate from the Bronx, Jessye Timmons-Hutchins
“I can’t believe the changes for the better in Albany. If I was 20 years younger I would move back. I love it!” says Timmons-Hutchins.
The ASU Concert Chorale and ASU Marching Rams Show Band performed selections at Convocation.
Homecoming Week wraps up with a parade and football game on Saturday along with a step show in the evening.
