Dougherty County Police officers hit the books Tuesday
Officers will soon teach teens and their parents about driving safety
ALBANY, GA -- Dougherty County Police officers hit the books Tuesday. The officers were getting a lesson from the University of Georgia's Traffic Injury Prevention Institute about driving safety for teens. Officials say each year new teens make their way on to roadways and need to learn about safe driving.
G.T.I.P.I. Project Coordinator Dana Porter says the number of teen accidents is high. “In Georgia alone, more than 200 teen passengers and drivers are killed each year. We are actually ranked fifth in the country for teen fatality. It is the number one killer of teens,” says Porter.
Officers who sat through the lesson will now teach classes to teens and parents. Anyone interested in the classes should contact the Dougherty County Police Department.
