As heat rises, crime rates rise

ALBANY, GA. -- For Southwest Georgia, it’s been a summer of near-record temperatures and a summer of shootings, burglaries, smash and grabs and murders.

On Thursday night, the trend continued.

In the space of one hour, two people were shot in Albany and a fast food restaurant was robbed at gunpoint.

People often have more free time in the summer, which can lead to temptation.

It’s not just those that are committing the crimes that are affected by the heat. According to Dr. Carden, the summer season also affects the potential victims of those crimes.
