ALBANY, GA -- Residents all around Southwest Georgia took time out of their day to stop by their voting poll. And that includes about 20% of registered Dougherty County voters. Residents made their way to the polls throughout the day, however by mid-morning only 3-percent of registered voters had turned out. While it was slow starting overall, some polls stayed busy throughout the day. Officials say the turnout at each poll is different.
Doris Beall headed out to the polls and says she voted because it’s their duty as an American citizen. “I don’t have any right to grumble, or complain or criticize anything that happens in our leadership if I don’t exercise my right to vote and choose the one that I think would be the best” says Beall.
About 1500 people sent in absentee ballots or took part in early voting.
