ALBANY, GA -- A giant check was presented today to a family reading program in Albany.

The United Way presented a $13,000 check to the Dougherty County Family Literacy Connection.

The check was given on behalf of the MillerCoors Foundation organizers at the literacy connection say the funds will be used to keep the program staffed.

“We have adult education teachers, we have early childhood teachers, we have parent educators and lots of people to help give support to our families,” said Sandy Bamford, Family Literacy Connection executive director.

The program works with both children and their parents to enhance literacy and improve their living situation.
