ATHENS, GA. (AP) -- University of Georgia President Michael Adams is expected to hold a news conference to answer questions about the school's athletic director resigning after an arrest for drunken driving.

Adams will talk with reporters about Damon Evans during the president's regularly scheduled media briefing Tuesday at 2 p.m. Evans resigned Sunday, just four days after he was arrested by the Georgia State Patrol in Atlanta and charged with a DUI.

Police say the 40-year-old married father of two tried to persuade the officer not to arrest him. Also arrested with Evans was 28-year-old Courtney Fuhrmann, who was charged with disorderly conduct.

Evans was taken to jail just before his new, $550,000-per-year contract took effect with UGA. The former UGA football player was the Southeastern Conference's first black athletic director, replacing legendary director and coach Vince Dooley.
