Local law officials say they see these collisions every month
ALBANY, GA -- A woman driving just outside Atlanta was killed Monday in a deer related car accident. Local law officials say they see these collisions every month.
Dougherty County had about 45 reported deer related accidents in the last two months of 2009. Lieutenant Tom Jackson says deer crossing accidents happen every month and in many cases it’s the over reaction that leads to a collision. “It’s better to take your foot off the gas and not push the break and panic” says Jackson. “A lot of times you’ll be safer. Sometimes it may result in you having to hit the deer but that’s going to be safer than you going off the roadway and actually resulting in a death.”
Deer are most lively at dawn and dusk. Officials say the best way to avoid an accident is to pay attention to road shoulders, follow the speed limits, and not over react.
