(AP) -- ATLANTA (AP) - Former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young says he's supporting Roy Barnes in the race for governor of Georgia.
Young, a longtime civil rights activist who served as a lieutenant to the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and was later a member of Congress and U.N. ambassador, joined former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin and Brooke Jackson-Edmond, daughter of former Mayor Maynard Jackson, in endorsing Barnes on Tuesday.
Young says Barnes is best qualified among the candidates to tackle employment, education, transportation problems.
Barnes, who served a term as governor but lost his bid for re-election to Republican Sonny Perdue eight years ago, is running in the Democratic primary.
Franklin says she has confidence in Barnes' ability to improve education in Georgia.
