Organizers beef up security

Tonight behind the Albany Welcome Center "Movies in the Park" kicks off with the film “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.”

Every other Saturday until the end of August, a movie will be played on 30x30 projection screen along the river front.  The event is free and tonight’s movie begins around 8:45. Recently security has been an issue downtown but organizers say they have it covered.

“We do have a safety plan with Albany Police Department and we will have numerous police officers on staff and they’ll also be monitoring the cameras as well,” said Albany Recreation and Parks Department’s Suzanne Davis.

Specifically there will be 10 officers devoted to the event, 2 extra people watching the camera system, and regular patrolmen and women roaming the area as well.
