Both Judge Nancy Stephenson and Judge Willie Lockett spoke to the Dougherty County Finance Committee Wednesday

The Dougherty County Finance Committee heard an earful from local judges who say budget cuts and furloughs will have a damaging effect on their staff, not to mention taxpayers.

Probate Court Judge Nancy Stephenson has five clerks in her office who haven't gotten raises in over three years. Their office sees over 80 people a day and so any furloughs would greatly disrupt the court.

“It’s a little unfair to ask just a group of 600 employees to absorb an entire County's budget shortfall. It seems to me to be a super tax on just one little group,” said Judge Stephenson.

The Dougherty County Commission will vote on the final budget June 28th.
