Both candidates talk education
Albany City Commissioner Jon Howards’ monthly Town Hall meeting featured candidates for the July primary at the local and state wide level.
Candidates for Georgia Governor, Georgia House of Representatives, Dougherty County Commission, and candidates for Dougherty County School Board turned out to let voters know why they should be elected.
The two Governor candidates were David Poythress and Dubose Porter.
“We’ve got to let teachers be teachers. We’ve got to free them from all the restrictions that are written in the law. They are professional people. We need to acknowledge them as that, and stop blaming them for the problems in public education,” said David Poythress.
“We’ll have every child reading at a third grade level before the end of the third grade; that should be our goal. You predict graduation rates, you predict prison population based on what you do in investing in education early,” said Dubose Porter.
