The Citizen's Planning Task Force made the decision Tuesday evening
(AP) -- A DeKalb County citizen's task force says the county school district should close two schools and consolidate seven others.
The Citizen's Planning Task Force made the decision Tuesday evening.
The task force was established by the county's board of education to get citizen input on school closings, consolidations and attendance line changes. The group recommended closing Gresham Park Elementary and Knollwood Elementary.
Those marked for possible consolidation are Skyhaven, Meadowview, Clifton, Flat Shoals, Peachcrest, Atherton and Rowland elementary schools. The recommendations will be sent to the school board for final approval.
The school district faces a $115 million budget hole. The board hopes school closings will save more than $2 million.
