Liberty House's administrative offices have to be gutted after a Sunday afternoon fire

A local shelter for abused women is begging for help after a weekend fire damaged its business office.

Liberty House Director Silke Deeley says they don’t know how much insurance will cover the fire and found out Thursday the state cut even more money for shelters. Fire investigators say an electrical short started a fire in the basement Sunday afternoon. Deeley says the shelter and crisis line are still open.

’As far as data collection, being able to cut a check, being able to do any kind of book keeping right now, we're all at a standstill,” Deeley said.

Send donations to the Liberty House at P.O. Box 2046, Albany, GA 31702, www.libertyhouseofalbany.com, or stop by any SB&T location and donate to the Liberty House Fire Relief fund.
