Teachers say they're thankful to have a job

At the request of Governor Sonny Perdue, all local public schools systems are preparing for three more unpaid furlough days to be taken in the second semester.

Lee County teachers say they were prepared for the extra cuts. Many teachers say the furloughs are an extra stress factor because of lost time. Curriculum or certain chapters may have to be shortened to fit all the information in. Educators also say the furloughs affect all personnel differently. Younger educators say they’re used to the budget crunch or have the help of their parents, while teachers who are the sole bread winners or are married to other teachers say they are feeling their wallets tighten.
