Bags now $25 to check
Delta’s new luggage fees affect Southwest Georgians
The new baggage rates for Delta Airlines were implemented Tuesday.
Online fees rose $8 for the first bag and $7 for the second bag bringing the total to $23 and $32, respectively. Those checking bags at the airport will fork over $25 bucks for the first bag, an increase of $5 dollars, and $35 for the second. Delta declined a phone interview with FOX 31 News, but a spokesperson told us these rates apply to tickets purchased on or after January 5. Passengers who bought tickets before that date will pay the old rates.
However, not everyone has to pay the full luggage fees. Some frequent flyers, first class, business elite passengers, full fare coach, and active military on orders will be completely or partially exempt.
Delta says the new fees are because of increasing safety measures, increasing gas prices, and continued cost pressure on business.
