800,000 doses of the H1N1 vaccine have been recalled and Southwest Georgia received 600 of the recalled vaccines
The Southwest Georgia Public Health District has administered 56 H1N1 vaccines out of the 600 received.
Dr. Jacquelyn Grant, director of the Southwest Georgia Public Health District says there is absolutely no reason to panic about the H1N1 vaccine recall.
“The recalled vaccines have a lower antigenicty. It is not a safety issue, it’s not a hazard, and it’s not a low enough (antigen) that the dose is considered invalid. Nothing happens differently because of the dose” says Grant.
In a routine quality assurance check, pharmaceutical company Sanofi Pasteur discovered that certain doses of the vaccine had a lower antigen quality than required.
Health officials say any child who received the recalled vaccination does not need a replacement vaccination.
The Southwest Georgia Health District is returning the remaining 544 recalled H1N1 vaccines and hopes to receive replacement vaccines soon.
