In just two years, Code Enforcement will soon have demolished 200 blighted structures
Code Enforcement went before the City Commission Tuesday to ask for money to demolish more dilapidated structures.
Code Enforcement director, Mike Tilson, requested, and was granted, $583,000 additional dollars in order to tear down 76 buildings already on the chopping block. The City will be putting liens on the properties, but there is some debate over whether the City will be able to cash in on that option, since the areas in question are not likely to be developed.
City manager Al Lott says he'll hire a consultant with money from his contingency fund to find a way to incentivize the selling of the properties.
