A new medical campus in Americus named Phoebe Sumter Medical Center broke ground Tuesday

The Phoebe Hospital System held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday afternoon for its new hospital, Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, in Americus, Georgia.

Former President Jimmy Carter was the keynote speaker and he says the new facility means that Sumter County and the surrounding counties will have good accessible medical care and he’s setting expectations high for the hospital.  “I don’t have any doubt that in a couple year this will be the finest small hospital facility in the whole nation” says President Carter.

Phoebe Sumter Medical Center will be built in two stages over the next two years and is scheduled to open in the fall of 2011.
