Four boys hurt in a Cordele apartment fire are expected to survive.

State fire investigators say they found a lighter on the scene and believe one of the boys caused the apartment fire on West 23rd Ave. Sunday afternoon. Cordele Police Chief Dwayne Orrick says the boys were upstairs in a room with the door closed when the fire started. Their mother’s brother was downstairs and heard the boys crying.

All four were taken to the Augusta Burn Center. 18-month old Demetrius Waters is in critical condition. 2-year-old Jakeveon Brown and 3-year-old Larry Bass are in serious condition. 18-month-old Deontaevious Stubbin is in fair condition.

Orrick says any charges for the boys’ caretakers are pending further investigation.
