"BUI" could cost you $1,000

Millions of Americans will hit the lakes and or rivers for Fourth of July weekend. While having fun is number one, safety is just as important.

DNR First Class Ranger, Randy James says he expects hundreds of boats to roam the Flint River this weekend, making it a very busy three days for the Department of Natural Resources’ staff.

A “BUI,” boating under the influence ticket may cost you $1,000 bucks and boating privileges for one year!  James says a no tolerance rule is in place.

“If you’re going to be drinking, have a sober operator to drive the boat.  There’s no sense of putting everybody’s lives at risk just because somebody wants to have some fun,” said James.
