40 high school students are enrolled in a workforce training class
Ke'Rinton Girdner, a Dougherty Comprehensive High School sophomore, wants to be the CEO of a major corporation.
She says she's starting to work towards that goal using the Dougherty County School System's Diversified Cooperative Training class. It's part of the Workforce Investment Act and 40 high school students are currently enrolled in the nine day class. Program coordinator Kimberly Griffin says after they've completed the class they will obtain a grade for school, and then be placed at a job. The job the student gets is based on a skill assessment test. Griffin says the program helps give the students the skills they need to be viable in today's job market.
"Once they come through us and get job training skills, they're ready to go out and do well in the community and the work force," Griffin said.
The students will start work in the next two weeks.
