Turner Job Corps add names to Code Red
Dougherty County Emergency Management is thanking Turner Job Corps students for a job well done.
Deputy Director Jim Vaught says over 30 students have been doing data entry for the automatic code red system. The emergency alert system was on the chopping block of the county budget due to lack of usage. In March, there were only 5,000 participants signed up.
Vaught said today that with the help of these students, they will break the 34,000 barrier and just in time for hurricane season.
"Every day they set a goal and they met that goal. Each day they would up that goal in other words raise the bar every day and they've met it each time. They've done a fantastic job," said Vaught.
The National Weather Service is predicting a normal hurricane season with up to 14 named storms and seven of those reaching hurricane capacity.
