Centering Pregnancy will kick off in October
Dougherty County moms-to-be will soon have a new resource that helps ensure their baby's health.
Southwest Georgia District Public Health received a $150,000 grant to use over three years for the Centering Pregnancy program. Expectant moms will be put in a group and receive prenatal care in a group setting. It's the first Centering Pregnancy program at a public health department in Georgia. District Public Health Director Dr. Jacqueline Grant says studies show women in the program have fewer complications.
"In terms of pre-term birth, those births occur two weeks later. The babies are bigger. The ER utilization rate of the women that are going through the program is less," Grant said.
The program kicks off in October.
