18 take part in retirement plan
The Dougherty County school board voted unanimously today to accept their alternate incentive plan.
The offer for early retirement went out system wide in a way to save money during struggling budget times.
“We have 18 people who have stayed with the early retirement plan. Total cost to the system is roughly $990,000 including benefits of their salaries. The payout cost to the system is about $182,000,” says District Finance Director Robert Lloyd.
Lloyd says the system plans to recover costs within the first year of its implementation. The teachers that are taking part in the package are at the top tier of the pay scale for their job.
