Georgia State Patrol predicts 18 traffic-related deaths during holiday weekend
Georgia State Patrol is predicting 18 traffic related deaths during Memorial Day weekend, and local law enforcement wants you to stay safe on the roads.
Bob Dallas with the Governor's Office of Highway Safety says seatbelts are the best way to keep you safe. Last year 14 people died on Georgia roads during Memorial Day. To keep that number as low as possible, H.E.A.T. officers are beefing up patrols, cracking down on seatbelt violations, and focusing on rural roads.
"A lot of those roadways are just two lanes. Some may not be marked. Some don't have improved shoulders so you're more likely to you run off the road or have a head-on collision," Lt. Tommy Jackson said.
AAA Georgia predicts almost 900,000 Georgians will travel during the holiday.
