52-year-old Gary Lynn Huggins was walking across the highway

(AP) -- A Columbus, Georgia, man was struck and killed as he crossed U.S. 431.

Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr. says 52-year-old Gary Lynn Huggins was walking across the highway near Wal-Mart around 8:30 p.m. Saturday when he was struck by a Ford F-250 pickup truck.  The driver stopped.  Phenix City police are investigating the wreck.

Sumbry says Huggins was taken to The Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 10:56 p.m. Saturday from blunt force trauma injuries.
