(AP) -- Rockdale County authorities are investigating a vicious dog attack on a 4-year-old boy who remains hospitalized.

In the attack, the child's entire scalp was ripped and one ear badly damaged.  An investigative report on the attack in Conyers says the child's mother saw the red dog dragging her son and grabbed him away while kicking the dog, which also bit her on the right arm.  Sheriff Jeff Wigington says the dog's owner has agreed to euthanize the animal, a bulldog-mix.

Wigington says the investigation continues and charges in the case may be filed.  The parties names were not immediately released.  The child was airlifted to Scottish Rite Children's Hospital.
