Maestro Claire Fox Hillard updates Dougherty County Rotarians on symphony performances
The conductor of the Albany Symphony says they’re doing “okay” despite the recession.
Maestro Claire Fox Hillard told Dougherty County Rotarians about the symphony’s programs since Christmas including last week’s concert with 4,500 elementary students. Hillard says the nonprofit symphony is struggling with funding and is coping by having less rehearsals or not hiring as many musicians per concert. However, he says ticket sales have not dropped despite these challenges. “When there’s a recession, post 9/11, people are looking for escape. People are looking for solace, looking for new meaning. They turn to the arts whether it be theater or music,” said Hillard.
The next show is April 4.
