FOX 31 News Special Series, 'Mission: MCLB' (control burns)
Drivers passing the Marine Corps Logistics Base shouldn't worry if they see smoke.
The Marine Corps Logistics Base is performing controlled burns this spring. There are many reasons why they perform this yearly maintenance including wildlife management, control of wooded undergrowth and to make easy access for hunters and timber management. On days when the weather cooperates, the base tries to burn four to 500 acres a day... always keeping safety first. The base performs controlled burns an average of 15 days a year. The Natural Resource Department constantly monitors the fires and is quick to act if anything should go wrong.
