Lack of minority contracts big issue at Dougherty County School Board meeting
Concern over minority contracts causes two Dougherty County Board of Education members to vote against several projects.
Reverend James Bush and Velvet Riggins voted against six e-rate bids for the school system. Reverend Bush says no black contracts were involved in the bidding process and that is why he voted no. Some board members will meet with the superintendent and concerned citizen William Wright on Wednesday morning to iron out the issues. Meanwhile, the board voted to move ahead with paperless meetings and agendas. R.D. Harter of the school system said, “Paperless board meeting and paperless agendas will reduce a lot of paper use in the school system and save the school system money and it was a project that Mr. Maschke brought at the first board meeting in which he chaired and it's a goal of his to see it happen and the board voted unanimously to move in that direction.”
There will be no cost involved in the transition.
