ALBANY, GA --
One of Dougherty County’s 2012 coroner candidates has set up shop in Albany.

Michael Fowler held a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday morning for the opening of his headquarters located at 1118 Broad Avenue.

Fowler is a licensed mortician and forensic pathologist who recently retired from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation after 16 years of service.

He says the experience he's gained by traveling across the country and working in disaster zones sets him apart from other candidates.

“The knowledge that I have gained by being able to look at a body and determine certain things, I think it's very important and there will probably be fewer bodies that have to go to the crime lab by me being here,” says Michael Fowler, 2012 Dougherty County Coroner candidate.

Fowler says he also wants to mentor criminal justice students and help them find jobs in forensic science after completing school.
