ALBANY, GA --
As of Friday, the $85 billion in federal cuts has began in the sequestration process. Of those cuts, the roughly $1.4 billion will come from the Marine Corps during the 2013 fiscal year.
In a Saturday letter to all marines, Commandant of the Marine Corps James F. Amos expressed his concerns over the loss in budget saying, "As I testified before Congress last month, cuts of this magnitude, due to their timing and methodology, will significantly impact Marine Corps readiness, both short and long term."
Southwest Georgians like Hunter Wilson say the cuts could be potentially dangerous if there has to be a decrease in training.
Others, like Shanterria Pruitt say Congress should look for other places to cut money from, not those who risk everything for our country.
Also affected by the sequestration will be job seekers in Georgia that are currently receiving Extended Unemployment Compensation.
Thousands receiving EUC will see a cut in their weekly benefits thanks to a mandatory 10.7% cut to those funds that will go into effect beginning March 31st.
