The Albany-Dougherty County Aviation Commission met on Monday to discuss the look of the new airport terminal and the 2014 budget.

Airport Director Yvette Aehle invited the company in charge of the terminal’s furnishings to make a presentation on what’s been decided so far, from the carpet and chair fabrics to the placement and accessibility of it all. The board then voted to approve the motion that all furnishings must not exceed $291,000, which will be paid for from a fund separate from the budget.

Now that the cap has been put on the furnishings, the exact plans will go before the Albany City Commission sometime in March for their approval.

Next members went into looking at next year’s budget, which City Manager James Taylor says must be cut by 10%. Aehle says unlike other businesses, there are no services or hours that can be cut at an airport so this process is going to be very tough for them.

Aehle says instead of looking at cuts, the commission is going to look for other ways to fund the services they need to continue providing.
