LEE COUNTY, GA --
An inquiry to an illegally parked semi-truck has led Lee County Sheriff’s officials to a marijuana grow-house on Graves Springs Road.

Joshua David Driggers, 23, had his first hearing Friday morning facing charges for manufacturing marijuana and possession of tools during the commission of a crime.

Around 8:00 p.m. Thursday night, Corporal Joe Clark went looking for the owner of an illegally parked semi-truck at 808 Graves Springs Road. The officer didn't know marijuana was growing inside the home until he smelled it seeping through the doors.

“He looked through a window and then he saw the guy pouring some green leafy stuff into a bag and he said we need to talk,” said Reggie Rachals, Lee County Sheriff.

When the suspect invited the officer inside the home, Clark noticed a marijuana growth process that span from the beginning to the final stages. There was one medium sized plant and a smaller plant growing in the home.

Officials say it took the suspect close to $1,000 to set up the operation.

Inside the grow-house, they not only found plants, but seeds, fertilizer and lights used to help the crop grow. The suspect, Joshua Driggers, even had books containing his daily logs.

“He kept up with exactly what he was doing. It was kind of his day by day process of how he was tending to everything, what he was planting and what his yield was,” said Colonel Chris Owens.

Owens says the marijuana crop was well taken care of and if it had grown to its full size, the product could have yielded anywhere from $12,000 to $15,000.

“It doesn’t look like it was for his own consumption. It looks like he was getting ready to produce enough to start selling it,” said Reggie Rachals.

Sheriff Rachals says at one point in time grow houses were a big problem within Lee County. Since the trend has died down, he's hoping this isn't a sign of resurgence.

The owner of the semi-truck has not been charged in this case.
