ALBANY, GA. --

While you’re out shopping make sure you keep safety in mind.

Albany police officials say always be aware of your surroundings and if possible try to go shopping with a partner.

Instead of carrying large amounts of cash, shoppers are advised to use credit cards so that they can track their purchases and cancel the card if an unauthorized charge occurs.

Also don't carry around a large amount of bags. If you get too many, take some out and secure them inside your car or take them home before resuming shopping.

“Do not leave a lot of items unsecured in your vehicle. I would hate for someone to have purchased a lot of gifts and then they leave them in their car and then someone comes along and takes those things out of the car,” said Phyllis Banks, Albany Police Public Information Officer.
