BACONTON, GA --
Students at North Mitchell Elementary School kicked off the school year Friday morning with their annual Literacy Day program.

Faculty and staff say this is one of the most fun and spirited events of the school year and feels like it is an important way to start off the year because reading is a student's key to succes. The year's program began with the Baconton Mayor, Mrs. Annette Morman, reading the book of the month, "What A Day It Was At School".

The event wasn't all about reading though, students got the chance to sing, dance and get excited about reading.
