DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA --
If we are fortunate enough, many of us can look back on our school days and recall teachers who made an impact in our lives. Those who made learning fun by writing songs to help us remember facts, or encouraged us when math was just a little too hard.

Dougherty County has selected eight teachers who have done a phenomenal job in the classroom this year. Only one will be named the DCSS Teacher of the Year at a May 8th banquet.

Terri Brown from Lake Park Elementary school is one of this year's finalists.

“There’s more to teaching than just in a lesson book or text book. I believe that hidden curriculum is way important. Teaching those students to be trustworthy, honest, respectful and thinking so much of themselves,” said Ms. Brown.

Ms. Brown has a charming personality, her students all commented on what a great sense of humor she has.

“I love Ms. Brown because she’s encouraging she’s funny and she likes to tell jokes,” said student Joshua Lowe.

One thing Ms. Brown keeps in mind while lesson planning is that she is in competition with the latest technology for the students’ attention. Her desire is to make learning fun so the students look forward to it the way they look forward to playing the latest video game.

Ms. Brown says she is humbled and honored to be nominated for Teacher of the Year, but seeing her students successful is the greatest reward of all.
