MOULTRIE --
On Tuesday Moultrie Police Department Chief Frank Lang was named a recipient of the Crisis Intervention Team Leadership Award for his efforts that have proven to be beneficial to the team after they properly handled a situation involving a man with mental disabilities in July.

After a man with a mental disability was shot and killed while attacking a Moultrie police officer in 2011, Chief Frank Lang took an interest in getting his department trained by the Crisis Intervention Team.

50% of Chief Lang’s team became CIT certified which helped them during a Fourth of July incident where a man barricaded himself in his house. Officials were able to get the man outside and into custody with no injuries, gaining MPD attention from CIT leaders.

Chief Lang says the award is for all of the team, who has worked together to make their accomplishments possible.

Continuing with the theme of giving back, immediately after Chief Lang accepted his award he presented the mayor of Moultrie with an award of his own.

In November, Moultrie was chosen as a first place winner in its size category for the town's participation in the National Night Out event.

Chief Lang says the partnership between the community and the police department is what made Moultrie a winner. After nine years of joining in on the event, the Chief says he hopes to win again in the department’s 10th year this August.
