ALBANY,GA --

The Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy is helping prepare Georgia preschool children for success in reading and learning.

Locally, there is a push to provide underprivileged preschool age children with one, age appropriate book, each month.

Along with that book, educational material will be provided to parents on how to read and discuss books with their children.

“(Helping) break that cycle of poor literacy skills by supporting the parents, teaching them what to do, how to best read to the children, and providing the materials to the child,” said Mary Ligons member of the Dougherty Community Action Team.

The cost to sponsor a child for one year is $36 dollars; you can visit www.ferstfoundation.org to find out more.
